Dhaulagiri Pashmina

Pashmina

Since the late 18th century, pashmina has been recognized by connoisseurs worldwide to be the most luxurious of natural fibres. "Pashmina" the nepalese word for the highest quality of cashmere, (generally 13-16 micron, long staple fibre) is an ultra fine and exceedingly soft wool. This fine wool comes from the undercoat of the Capra Hircus goat. These goats are found at the altitude of 12000-14000 feet in Himalayas, Tibetan Plateau and Mongolia.

At first pashmina was woven into shawls on a warp of cotton. The preferred composition of these shawls eventually changed into cashmere and silk because of the fabric's superior pliancy and sheen. At Dhaulagiri, pashmina is hand-woven in composition of cashmere and silk and pure cashmere with manufacturing skills passed down through generations.
